Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name given to Winona Laura Hoowitz who was who was born within Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her the city she grew up in after her birthplace. Michel Horowitz' father was an editor and writer, as were Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder believes she is Jewish and descends from Ryder's Jewish father. She has also a half-sister named Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sister is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County in California at the age of 7 years old. In those days, there were no electric lights. Ryder read a lot due to the lack of television. Ryder began to take acting classes in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of 12. In 1986 she was offered her first major-screen appearance in the film Lucas she was only fifteen years old. Ryder was bullied in high school. Her thought was that by becoming an actor, her bullying would be changed. It didn't turn out. But she pushed on with her dreams. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big breakthrough. Ryder continued playing roles that were successful in several movies. In 1993, Ryder was nominated two times for the Academy Awards.
